Our Visit with Smiles of Memorial

Just recently the girls and I had the wonderful opportunity to visit Smiles of Memorial. I brought the girls in for an exam, x-rays, and a cleaning. I received a limited exam due to me being pregnant. I must be completely honest and admit I could do a lot better with my entire family visiting the dentist regularly. Although, it’s recommended that once your children have their first tooth you should schedule them a dentist appointment, this was Channing’s first trip to the dentist…oops! Carrington being 6 has been before of course. But why does it seem like dental care is pretty close to the bottom of the totem pole when it comes to our routine check ups? Especially with tooth decay being the most chronic illness in children in the U.S. Most parents are well aware of how important it is for our children to attend their routine check ups at the pediatrician. We wouldn’t dare miss those milestone appointments, especially in the first few years. But when it comes to dental care we are a lot more lax. Or maybe I’m just speaking for myself. But I’m glad I was finally able to get both girls and myself in for a check up. I vow to do better in this department. If you struggle with it as well, let’s all of us make dental care more of a priority in 2019!

With Channing being the rambunctious toddler that she is, I was naturally very nervous about how this appointment would go. As adults, we don’t like people picking and poking in our mouths…so imagine how a toddler who doesn’t really know what’s going on feels. Carrington is so mature and has such a wise little soul, I wasn’t worried about her. I knew she would do just fine. To my surprise, Channing did wonderful as well. She didn’t cry once while she was getting her examination. Now trying to get her to sit still was another story..but at least she wasn’t spazzing out, so I’ll take that. The staff at Smiles of Memorial had A LOT to do with this though. From the time we entered the practice and throughout our entire experience there, they were so welcoming and warm. They were very good with both girls and did a great job at making them feel comfortable. Even down the staff keeping an eye on Channing while Carrington and I were getting our examinations. Not only were they warm and welcoming, I loved how the staff and the doctor were willing to educate me on the process with what it is they were doing and why. After both girls received their examination the doctor gave me a very thorough report of their current dental condition.

Not only is the practice great with children, but I enjoyed the process of my examination as well. I was comfortable the entire time, even being almost 9 months pregnant. One of the things I loved the most is I was able to actually see what the doctor was doing the entire examination on a screen that was in front of me. Dr. Dernick took photos of his concerns and after he was done with the exam we went through each photo on the screen where he gave me a detailed explanation for every concern.

Overall from beginning to end, our visit with Smiles of Memorial was very pleasant. Not only were they welcoming and knowledgeable like I mentioned earlier, but the central location is great, there was no wait time, the dental clinic was not only beautiful aesthetically but also very well equipped. I left feeling comfortable putting my families dental care needs in their hands. Is it just me or do dentist have the reputation of being hard to trust? Well I didn’t feel that way with Dr.Dernick and his staff at all. I’m grateful that we now have a plan moving forward on getting our family not just beautiful smiles but healthy ones as well.

Thank you Smiles of Memorial for having my family and I!
